How many digital cameras do you have at your disposal? I can think of four different digital cameras that we have in our family right now. How many of those digital cameras would you say you have gotten your money’s worth out of it? Of the four that we have two are in our cell phones so I will not count those for the purpose of this post. So that leaves me with two digital cameras in our family both of which work perfectly fine.
So why do we have two digital cameras when there was nothing wrong with the first one we had? Well we like most people had a little Canon PowerShot with a 5 megapixel resolution. It’s a great little camera that still gets a lot of use and is very simple to use. Our second camera is also a Canon but on this one we stepped up to the PowerShot s5 IS series with 12 megapixel resolution. Again a great camera that gets a lot of use in the family and has a lot more bells and whistles to it.
Camera bells and whistles? If you are like me and my wife odds are that you don’t know or understand very much about your digital camera past look at the screen in the back point and click. Here we have two very capable cameras that have all these features the neither one of us has cared to spend any time to learn. Yet we go ahead and purchase a newer and fancier digital camera with a few more bells and whistles but basically the same features.
Lately we have been discovering some of the other features in both of our cameras and spending a little more time with the nuts and bolts of actually learning about photography. So I just wanted to pass on some words of advice for those of you that have to get the latest digital camera because it’s the newest cutting edge camera. Odds are that you already have most of the same features in the digital camera you have sitting in your house already. Spend some time reading the manual and playing with the features. I am willing to bet that you have not used a tenth of the technology that is in that one.
